Discover The Premier Approach To Fixing Back Pain!

What Is Back Pain?

Back pain is one of the most prevalent conditions in the world and will affect almost every one of us at some point in our lives – over 70% of adults in the US alone suffer from the condition. There are many common reasons why you might be experiencing back pain, including muscle strain, disk damage, health-related conditions such as scoliosis and osteoporosis, as well as injury due to sports or as a consequence of older age. It can affect people of any age, but elderly people may be more susceptible to the condition due to degeneration of the lower back muscles. The human back consists of a complex structure of muscles, ligaments, tendons, disks, and bones that work together to support the body and enable movement. The segments of the spine are cushioned with cartilage-like pads called disks. Problems with any of these components can lead to back pain.

What Are The Symptoms?

Depending on the root cause of your back pain, the symptoms can vary widely, however, at Premier Physical Therapy most of our patients experience a persistent ache, sharp pain, or shooting sensation that can be felt anywhere along the spine, from the neck to the lower back. As a result of this discomfort, some people experience muscle stiffness, limited mobility, and an increased feeling of anxiety where they worry any movement may exacerbate their pain. The pain can be localized or radiate to other areas, such as the legs or arms, particularly if there is nerve involvement, such as in cases of sciatica.

At Premier Physical Therapy, we know that the impact of back pain on your daily life can be significant. Chronic back pain can limit your ability to perform everyday tasks, such as lifting, bending, or even walking for long periods, leading to a more sedentary, less independent lifestyle. It can also affect sleep quality, with your mood and energy levels being impacted which can result in being less productive at work. Back pain that lasts for 3 months or more is classed as ‘chronic’ which means it’s not going to go away on its own therefore seeking the advice of a back pain specialist is essential for long-term relief.
